This is the basic initial training for mold professionals that want a certification as either a NORMI Certified Mold Assessor or NORMI Certified Mold Remediator. Even though, to avoid conflict of interest, the mold industry is broken into these two professions, NORMI teaches both in the same room in this course because assessors need to know how to do remediation and remediators need to understand the assessment process when a third-part assessor is not onsite. This unique training approach is called “concurrent training” and has proven very successful, especially with the hands-on segments we include. This is a three-day course and designed to put the student on a pathway to success in running his own business or being the best employee they can be.
Once trained, the student may sit for either or both proctored examinations (CMA & CMR) after paying a separate examination/certification fee. NORMI ACTIVE Membership is required for your certification(s) to be visible on the NORMI lead-sourcing site at www.NORMIPro.com If you are not an ACTIVE NORMI Member, you may join at www.Join.NORMI.org
DETAILS for Licensing: The CMA and CMR certifications provide credibility in both non-licensing states as well as the licensing municipalities of Florida, Louisiana, District of Columbia, and Portland, OR. Separate licensing criteria have been established by each municipality and are required for licensure. That information is available on the landing page at www.NORMI.org when links to each municipality on in the text.
CERTIFICATION Process: Once the class has been taken and the proctored examination passed with 70% or more, the student will receive a certification document which will be placed in his NORMI Member Account. A single certification is provided, and an additional charge may be incurred for additional certifications to satisfy specific states. For more information, please contact NORMI at 877.251.2296 or email support@normi.rog
CLASSROOM Instruction: A classroom student manual is available for online students (may be purchased) or provided to onsite students where notes should be taken for the exam. Each proctored examination is in an “open book” setting. Classroom instruction will include training on mold, moisture, moisture intrusion, IR moisture thermal imaging, assessment, report writing, containment, remediation techniques, protocol writing and standards of practice.
NOTE: For students who are pursuing the Florida MRS Licenses, a document stating the training to be in “mold, moisture and respiratory protection” will be provided at the end of the class and put in their NORMI Member Account. For students who are pursuing the Louisiana license, an additional written module in Louisiana Law and Business Ethics may be provided upon request but must be completed prior to receipt of the certification.
WORKSHOP Hands-On: During the course, hands-on training will be involved for both assessors and remediators and students are encouraged to participate. This enhances the learning experience and a primary reason why we encourage onsite class participation.
LIVE ONLINE Simulcast Option: Students are encouraged to participate in the onsite training to experience the hands-on segments of the course but, where necessary, the student may take this course with a LIVE ONLINE Simulcast Option.
NORMI utilizes high-tech TV quality equipment to provide a live setting experience and students may participate by asking and answering questions in this live setting. This course is broadcast through the ZOOM platform and details for accessing the class are given a short time prior to the commencement of the class.
